Google Maps Creates Imaginary UK Town- Argleton

Argleton, a town of United Kingdom has been reported on Google Maps. Google’s UK Map Provider is Tele Atlas. And the funniest thing here to note is that in reality there is no town by the name Argleton in UK.

UK resident Mike Nolan first discovered this imaginary place on Google Maps in September 2008. And to further prove falsity of this fictional place, Roy Bayfield actually visited the address of this place as per Google Maps in February of this year and to his great surprise he found there nothing except some vacant fields. Mike Nolan added that it could be a mistake while inserting the name ‘Argleton’ instead of ‘Aughton’ in maps database.

The Telegraph said that Tele Atlas is going to remove Argelton from its vast database soon.

As per a Google spokesperson,

While the vast majority of this information is correct there are occasional errors. We are constantly working to improve the quality and accuracy of the information available in Google Maps and appreciate our users feedback in helping us do so. People can report an issue to the data provider directly and this will be updated at a later date.

Google is laying whole blame on its mapping information provider Tele Atlas and saying that it does get sometimes errors.
